Are you interested in
learning more about birds and birding? Are you a
budding nature photographer? Or perhaps your secret desire is to learn how to REALLY tell a story?
The Bruce
Peninsula Bird
Observatory's exciting Weekends
On The Bruce
lineup for 2010 is ready for YOU! Our exclusive Weekends
On The Bruce are held at the Cabot Head
Research Station and Grebe
Lodge,
on the shores of Georgian Bay near the tip of the scenic Bruce
Peninsula. Revel in the
quiet, natural solitude of a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, Dark Sky
Community and protected Ontario Parks Nature Reserve. We have it ALL at
the Bruce Peninsula Bird Observatory!
Come and
stay for the weekend - our learning and
participatory workshops welcome you in this relaxed and magnificent
natural setting. Forget the stresses of modern life and find
sanctuary with a select group of like-minded folk. This year, be green
and
make the environment one of your commitments - your participation
supports the
important work of the Bruce Peninsula Bird Observatory. Spending a
Weekend On The Bruce is a great way to make new friends, have fun while
learning, and at the same time, help our migratory birds!
Interested in birds and in some of the ways we study them?
Attending our workshops entitle you to a
value-added feature for early-risers: during
migratory periods, our brilliant and fluently
bilingual Station Scientist, Dr. Stephane
Menu, takes great pleasure in sharing his wealth of avian knowledge
while you get to see resident and migratory birds being processed at
the research station!

BPBO
Trivia - Our Station Scientist loves cookies almost as much as he loves
birds! Please do not feed the wildlife, but you can feed Stephane anytime!

IMPORTANT
INFORMATION
Accommodations
Weekends On The
Bruce are exclusive
opportunities
presented by the Bruce Peninsula Bird Observatory. Having visited this
web site, you are well aware that we operate in a very remote and
secluded location overlooking the crystal clear waters of Georgian Bay
&
Wingfield Basin.
If you are planning to take advantage of these exceptional learning
opportunities, please understand accommodations in Grebe
Lodge
are rustic, yet comfortable. Grebe Lodge offers beautiful panoramic
views of Georgian Bay and a large natural stone fireplace to cozy up to
on cool nights.
While a few of our Weekends On The Bruce offerings are for women only,
most of our weekends are co-ed in nature. Two large rooms, each with
their own 3-piece washrooms, provide "dormitory style" sleeping
quarters for 6 persons each, with 3 bunk beds per room. One room is
reserved for women, the other for men. Each room has it's own walkout
to the cobble beach.
You Are Nature's
Guest At Cabot Head
The untouched landscape that surrounds the Observatory belongs to its
flora and fauna. It is important to remember that WE are the intruders.
There may be mice in the building. We
get the occasional bat too! The endangered massasauga
rattlesnake
is present in this region, as are black bears. Poison Ivy is prevalent
in some areas. If your timing is right, you'll enjoy watching our
resident family of northern river otters, whose
playful antics in Wingfield Basin are legend. Every year, a returning
pair of
Canada Geese make their nest on the partially sunken shipwreck
Gargantua, as do
myriad barn swallows and the occasional rough-winged swallow pair.
What's Included
All Weekends
On The Bruce include Friday night arrival
snacks and 5 meals (*exception - day rate participants, where
applicable, are provided only lunches on Saturdays & Sundays).
Booking Your
Weekend On The Bruce
A $50.00 mail-in deposit (per person, per weekend) is required with
